Get out and talk about Rotary.  Being a Rotarian is a way of life.  We accomplish this by being a group.  We are the best spokesperson for our club.  The best tool we have to get new members is ourselves.  Be an ambassador for our Rotary and recruit a new member.

Bill Thorne’s Riddle (if you want to call it that):  What’s red and looks like blue paint?  Red paint?!?

Induction of new member:  Anne Peagler.  Welcome Back Anne.

Chuck Strobel stated we have just completed the Rotary fund raiser at the 2010 Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival. It was rather cool the first two days and very warm for the last two days. The combination of hot corn dogs, hot pretzels and cold snow cones allowed for excellent sales on each of the days. The results provided sales of $2,285. The cost of goods sold will be less than one half of this including the most expensive item, the booth at $690. This leaves a substantial income for the Rotary Club of Greensburg.  Mr. President please accept this lose change and now let us all thank the following Rotarian that worked to make the project such a success:  Thursday, July 1st --- Nelson Mayer, Susan McDonald, Ellie Bucchi and son, Larry Blake, Todd Jones, Bobbie Stemmler Guest and husband Ed, and Chris DeDiana; Friday, July 2nd --- Ed Meadows and wife Sue, Bonnie Lewis, Dawn and Mike Roberts and son, Rick Nedley, James Boggs and John Hanna; Saturday, July 3rd --- Gene James, Jim and Karen Steeley, Eileen Dorfman, Tom Hower with a daughter and a grandson, Dave Robinson and son; and Sunday, July 4th --- Martin Barbie, Patty Lonsbary, Charles and Lyn Strobel and son.

The Food Bank is this Saturday, 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church.  Everyone is welcome to participate.

Tom Hower thanked everyone who helped at the ARC fishing picnic.  More participants came this year than any other year.  Pictures were passed for all to see.

Tom Jachimowicz – Bill Thorne should be charged twice the dues for Rotary for appearing twice in the Rotary picture.

Club Assembly by Mark Parker:

Who are we and what is our past history?  Founded in 1916 & our first president was Frank B. Miller.

Four Fold Theme:  What is Rotary?  What is a Rotary Club?  What is the Goal of Rotary?  What is the destiny of Rotary?

94 years of fellowship and service to the Greensburg Community with many, many club activities.

What is a Rotarian?  1. You are trustworthy.  2. You are a humanitarian.  3.  The word “Commitment” means something to you. 4.  Friendships and relationships are important to you.

A question:  Why are you here today?

Club goals for 2010 – 2011:  1) 10% increase in membership, 2) increase community awareness of Rotary, 3) increase in fund raising and 4) new service project for the community.

Thank you to Bill McGrath for a wonderful year.

Speaker:

Greensburg Kansas students gave a recap of the few weeks they spent here:  Weston wasn’t sure exactly what Rotary was, but he thinks he might join some day after his experience here.  He very much enjoyed Gettysburg and the other sites.

Jordan was thrilled that he could come to Greensburg, PA & would never have had the opportunity to come here otherwise.  He is amazed at the hills and how tall things are here.  He thanked us for hosting their trip.  He has learned a lot.

Shannon has visited us for three years now.  The past three years have been “WOW.”  He would have never had the opportunity to do all that we have shared with him.  He is honored to have shared his summers with us.  He appreciates everything everyone has done for them.  He will recommend Rotary to everyone.  He is sad that this is his last year to visit us.

Mark Parker stated a student from Greensburg, PA will be heading to Greensburg, KS as part of the exchange.

Rotary International’s four avenues of service are currently: Community Service, Vocational Service, International Service, and Club Service.  A fifth avenue of service was recently passed – New Generations.  The Avenue of New Generations recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.  Rotary International is asking districts to mentor & help our youth (young adults up to the age of 30).  Mark Parker is charging members to involve youth in their everyday lives, bring them to lunch, involve them in service projects, etc.

Dawn Roberts introduced George O’Donnell.  Friends to Friends, Inc. is a non-profit organization funded solely by private contributions. The Friends to Friends League was established in September 1995 by George O'Donnell.  George is a parent of a special-needs child, who realized the need for increased awareness and respect between children with and without disabilities in a social environment.  Friends to Friends brings special needs and non-special needs children and their families together in a social environment through sports activities such as bowling and baseball.  The purpose of the program is to bring greater awareness through integration.  The program is run on $10,000 a year, which includes meals, baseball, bowling, fishing and has no paid employees.  The foundation encompasses Westmoreland, Butler, Beaver and Armstrong Counties.  For more information, visit his website at www.friendstofriends.org.
